Introduction
Businesses all over the world use cloud platforms such as Office 365 due to their compelling benefits and to move away from On-premise setups. For example, Office 365 and Live Exchange allow real-time collaboration and communication. As a result, efficient cloud migration technologies and email migration software for Microsoft Office 365 are in high demand.. Due to corporate mergers, acquisitions, and domain transfers, Office 365 tenant to tenant migration has become increasingly common these days. When it comes to cloud migration, I’m always trying out and experimenting with new tools. This time my focus is on EdbMails’ Office 365 migration software and the review is based on my testing and analysis of this tool.
The need for EdbMails Office 365 migration tool
Many people wonder if performing migrations would necessitate the use of specialized software. However, in my experience, data integrity and consistency must never be compromised when performing business level migration projects. This is the point at which manual migration methods fail. I spoke with other IT administrators who are in the same boat as others and are looking for simple solutions that do not require manual intervention. Hearing their concerns about the data relocation process prompted me to look for a suitable tool to assist them. Therefore, I believe it would be beneficial for me to share my knowledge with others.
EdbMails Office 365 migration tool streamlines and expedites time-consuming migration processes. There is no prior technical knowledge or skill required to use the software. The procedures are simple to follow, ensuring a smooth Office 365 transition. Before we get into the details of how EdbMails works, let’s go over the features and see how EdbMails helps you.
Features and Functions of EdbMails

- EdbMails supports a wide range of Office 365 & Exchange migration scenarios
- Direct Office 365 mailbox transfer to another domain or the same domain.
- EdbMails works with all Office 365 licenses and Exchange server versions.
- Migrate directly from Office 365 to Hosted Exchange & vice versa

- Public folder to Office 365 Shared Mailbox migration and vice versa
- Move or Transfer multiple mailboxes without limits
You can migrate multiple mailboxes at once. The folder, subfolders and all the mail-items are displayed in the left pane of the migration window. The number of mailboxes that can be migrated with EdbMails is unlimited.
- Supports all Office 365 migration types
EdbMails software supports cutover, staged, and hybrid migrations. The migration is as simple as connecting the source and target servers. When you perform the cutover or staged migration, there is no downtime and no impact on business operations. The cutover migration involves moving everything from the source to the target. The staged migration entails two stages of data transfer or in batches. This method is ideal for rapidly moving large amounts of data to a new environment. The Hybrid Office 365 migration is ideal for moving from, to, or within a hybrid environment (live Exchange and Office 365).
- Complete control over the moved data
EdbMails Office 365 migrator software allows you to filter data items such as specific mail items or entire folders during the conversion. If you intend to migrate data from the Office 365 server to the target servers in batches or selectively, you can use filters such as message sent and received dates, attachment names, and To and From addresses.
- Migrate Archive and public folders mailboxes
Using EdbMails, you can migrate Archive and Public folder mailboxes between Office 365 tenants and live Exchange servers. The destination server has an exact copy of the source mailboxes, Public folders, Shared and Archive mailboxes.
- Safe and secure migration operation
EdbMails software accesses the source server data passively, thus no data is erased, modified or changed. The application simply moves files from a source environment (account) to a destination environment without retaining any data. EdbMails Office 365 Migration also connects to Office 365 using the secure modern OAuth 2.0 authentication method based on ADAL which is very secure. EdbMails does not use any third-party intermediaries or tools for performing the migration and no other user has access to any of your data.
- Detailed Migration Log reports
EdbMails can generate a log report for all migrations, a specific job, or even a mailbox. These reports keep you informed of the migration’s progress and help you troubleshoot difficulties promptly. To view the migration log, simply click the ‘View Log’ button in the migration progress bottom panel.
Essentials for EdbMails Office 365 Migration
How to migrate Office 365 using EdbMails?
- Connect to the source Office 365 account.
After launching EdbMails, connect to the source Office 365 account. The two possibilities are “Classic” and “Modern” login methods. The modern login screen has two options: Auto and Manual registration. To demonstrate, we’ll use Auto Registration.
The following window offers three connection options: Mailbox, Public Folder, and Archive Mailbox. Your mailbox must have both Public Folder and Archive Mailbox enabled from the Admin Center to perform these migrations. Although the other connection options are almost identical, we’ll stick with Connect to Mailboxes for demonstration purposes.
After you’ve decided on a connection method, go to the official Office 365 login page and sign in. Accept the permissions and proceed to the next steps.
Your emails will be loaded in three ways after you verify your account. Mailboxes can be loaded manually, automatically, or from a .CSV file. If you’re a new user, stick to the first two. In this case, we’ll select the auto-load option which displays all the mailboxes in real-time. If in case you are not able to view certain mailboxes, load them using the .CSV file option.
- Select the required mail items and folders
On the main EdbMails interface, you can extend a list of all Office 365 mailboxes to see individual mail items and their counts. On the right side of the screen are options for removing deleted source items from target folders and updating target items with the source. The tooltips describe each option’s purpose. Another option is to migrate permissions. Once you’ve chosen your mailboxes and options, click Migrate to Office 365 at the bottom of the page. Using the checkboxes, you can select which mailboxes and mail items to transfer which leaves everything under your control.
- Connect to the destination Office 365 account
In order to complete the migration, you must first connect to the destination Office 365 account. The connection methods and options for loading mailboxes are nearly identical to that of the source connection described earlier.
If you choose Automatic, a list of mailboxes will appear. If any mailboxes are missing, a CSV file can be used to add them. Click ‘Load Mailboxes using.CSV file’.
Thanks to EdbMails’ automated mailbox mapping feature between source and target servers which saves time of manually mapping them. If you would prefer, you can also manually map mailboxes or use a previous migration’s mapping. In my migration testing I picked the automatic mailbox mapping.
Verify the mapping (even if you have chosen the automatic option) and click the ‘Continue’ button to proceed to the next step.
- Migration progress and View Log Report
The migration progress meter will appear, showing the current status. Click the ‘View Log’ button at the end to get the detailed migration log report.
Additional Settings, Folder and Filter Options
The various filter settings in EdbMails make it simple to filter and migrate specific emails and mail items. This saves time by only moving the data that is required and leaving the rest behind. By default, the folders Junk and Conversation History folders are automatically set to exclude for migration.
Now that we’ve covered all the features in detail, let’s look at the additional migration configuration options.
- Deleted objects from target folders
During successive migrations, you can use this option to delete the mail items and folders from target directories which were deleted in the source. Assume, for example, that your first action was a full migration. You now delete items from the Inbox folder and migrate them to the same destination. If this option is selected, EdbMails will remove the matching mail item from the target’s Inbox folder if it is present.
- Force item updates
This option forces all mailbox changes to be synced with the target. If you edit existing contacts or drafts, the changes are passed over to the target by deleting or updating the old items.
- Include or exclude folders
As mentioned in the features section, you can include or omit certain folders from the transfer. The migration can be expedited up by excluding folders like Drafts, Junk, and Conversation History.
- Rules, permissions, and global address list migration
EdbMails allows you to move Inbox rules and Anonymous User permissions. Contacts and the Global Address List can also be directly transferred from the source to the destination.
Free Customer Support and Live Demo
EdbMails offers an excellent support service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions or schedule an Office 365 transfer. Chat is the quickest way to get a response, but you can also reach out to customer service via email or phone.
