The company’s first bankruptcy

The company’s first bankruptcy filing occurred in 1993. In November 1993, the company filed for Chapter 11 and was awarded a loan from GE Capital. The debtors reduced the amount of money that the company owed to creditors from $87.6 million to $55 million. The next year, Hackbarth and Jameson sold their Del Taco shares to a group of investors. In November 1994, they sold the business to W. R. Grace and Company and began expanding the franchise.

The company has five locations in Texas, including two locations in Cedar Park. In summer 2014, the chain opened its first location in Guam. The company’s first locations in Ohio are in Columbus and Dallas-Fort Worth.

By 2008, Del Taco had 372 locations in ten states. That beat its rival, Taco Bell, by almost $10,000 per location. By 2010, Del Taco began a major expansion into Arizona and Las Vegas. Its franchisees were now the only ones who were allowed to open Del Taco restaurants in those cities.
